The first time we saw the Château Cuisine it wasn’t possible to step inside - oversized ovens littered the level below as the entire kitchen floor had fallen in. In the 1970s and early 1980s the Château held school holiday camps and so large commercial equipment had been installed. What remained of this was left in pieces and rubble…

When the Château was being put back together again large steel beams and a composite floor were used. This was a requirement set in place by the engineers and architects of Monuments Historic to ensure that modern safety standards and weight loads were adhered to.

It was not until two years later that we were eventually able to install electricity and water. Until then we simply made do!

Finally, the room slowly began to look like a real kitchen filled to the brim with all sorts of treasures from local brocantes and bric-à-bracs…

Today, the kitchen is the heart of the Château where everyone has a place at the table and a story to share…
