FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - THE CHÂTEAU TODAY

Has Château de Gudanes opened its doors to visitors?

Yes! At the moment we are trying to tread lightly in the restoration until we have a greater understanding of what is sustainable, and what will truly do justice to the Château’s past, present, and future.

Is it possible to stay at the Château? How do I make a booking?

In the summertime Château de Gudanes opens her gates and her heart to visitors on a range of different “Château Experiences” of 3, 5 and 7 nights in length.

These Experiences are similar are about spending time within the walls of a historic, working Château as it is being bought back to life and getting to know the region of France in which she is situated - exploring everything from long ago Chateaux and medieval villages to the best of traditional French markets and fare. Stay with us and help to restore the Château’s 18th Century frescoes, join us in the Château Kitchen to to create sweet and savoury cuisine and tour the French countryside stopping at markets and exploring for antique treasures along the way!

To discover more information about the Château Experiences, including pricing, dates, how to book in etc, we invite you to visit the dedicated page on the Château website here.

For more information about touring the Château, including dates, links to book in etc, we kindly ask that you visit the dedicated page on the Château website here.

At this stage, due to the need to obtain further permits we are currently limited in the number of tour dates that we are able to hold and the number of tour guests we are able to host. And so, we are very sorry to let you know that we are not able to host tours additional to the dates that are listed on the page linked above. We thank you dearly for your understanding about this.

Château de Gudanes is a Class 1 Historical Monument and a monumental restoration project. The restoration of the Château would not be possible without the unending support and help from volunteers. The page linked above shares more information about volunteer opportunities specific to each year and season. Please kindly note that we mainly host volunteers in the spring and fall months. What are the future plans for the Château?

The philosophy of the Château begins with our end intention to have created something that is both respectful and sympathetic to not only the Château herself, but also the region of France that she finds herself in.

And, whilst we do not yet have a firmly set future use for the Château, our vision is clear in the way that we hope to tell a story that is connected and authentic by incorporating the entire history of the Château, not just its most prestigious decades, and one that communicates through feelings not words or things. What exactly this will entail is as yet undecided. Many ideas are just in their infancy, but we hope they will develop into something that we can be proud of.

The Château is a keeper of memories, and whatever we endeavour to do in the future will be about passing on and sharing these memories, and the past itself. We would like to share these in a way that engages with the multi-vocality of the imagination, so that visitors are able to come to their own conclusion and vision of what the Château once was, and nurture their own emotive response to that. We hope to merely set the scene to help facilitate that journey within your own imagination, allowing visitors to choose what resonates with them personally.
