Terms & Conditions
1. Who you are contracting with
Your booking is with Château de Gudanes, a société par actions simplifiée unipersonnelle (SASU) with a share capital of €500, registered with the RCS of Foix under number 106 121 783, VAT number FR12106121783, whose registered office is at Château de Gudanes, Gudanes, 09310 Château-Verdun, France. References to "we" and "the château" mean that company.
2. Making a booking
A room or a workshop place booked on this website is confirmed as it is booked: a room as soon as your payment goes through, a workshop place as you register. You will receive a confirmation by email with your reference code, which is also how you find and manage your booking at any time.
A table at La Table is a request: the château reviews it and confirms by email. If it is declined, anything you have paid for it is refunded automatically.
Bookings made through another website, such as Booking.com, are confirmed by that website, on its own terms.
We reserve the right to cancel a confirmed booking where we must — for example, if the château cannot safely receive guests on your dates. If we cancel, we will tell you as soon as we can and refund in full what you have paid us.
3. Prices, payment and the tourist tax
- Prices are in euros and include French VAT where it applies.
- Some bookings are paid in full when you book. Others take a deposit, with the balance due either before arrival or on the day — whichever applies to your booking is stated clearly when you book and repeated in your confirmation.
- Workshops take a deposit when you register, and the balance is due 30 days before the workshop begins. If you register within those 30 days, the full amount is due at once. The deposit is stated on the workshop page and in your confirmation.
- Where a balance is due before arrival and is not paid by the date given, we may release the booking and treat it as cancelled by you.
- The taxe de séjour, the local tourist tax, is charged per adult per night at the rate set by the commune. It is added to your bill and paid with the full amount, or with the balance where you paid a deposit.
- A discount code applies only to the booking it was used on, cannot be applied afterwards, and cannot be exchanged for money.
4. Cancellations, changes and refunds
- Bookings are non-refundable. Once confirmed and paid for, we do not offer a refund as a matter of course if you cancel or do not arrive.
- Please write to us all the same. We look at every cancellation individually, and we can sometimes move your dates instead. Any refund we do make is at our discretion: a gesture of goodwill rather than an entitlement, and not a precedent for any other booking.
- If we cancel a confirmed booking, or decline a table you have requested, anything already paid is refunded in full.
- Where you booked through Booking.com or another travel website, that website's cancellation terms apply instead of these, and any refund is arranged through it rather than with us.
5. Dining and workshops
- A table is held for the time booked. If you have not arrived and have not contacted us, we may release it. Repeated no-shows may mean we decline future reservations.
- If we cancel a workshop for any reason, you are refunded in full or offered a place on another date, as you prefer.
- What each workshop includes is set out on its page and in your confirmation. Transfers and excursions are included only where a workshop says so.
- Tell us about allergies and dietary requirements when you book. We will do our best, but a château kitchen is not an allergen-free environment and we cannot guarantee the absence of any ingredient.
6. Arrival, departure and the château
- Arrival is from 3pm and departure by 10am, unless your confirmation says otherwise. Tell us if you expect to arrive late so that someone can be there to meet you.
- Guests must be eight or older.
- Please treat the château as the historic building it is. Smoking is not permitted indoors. Additional guests only by prior agreement.
- We cannot accommodate pets, as the restoration areas make it unsafe for them. Assistance and guide dogs are welcome; please tell us before you arrive so that we can prepare your room.
- We may ask anyone whose behaviour puts the building, its contents or other guests at risk to leave, without a refund.
7. Damage and loss
- The château contains antique furniture, artworks and fittings that cannot simply be replaced. You are responsible for loss or damage caused by you or your party beyond fair wear and tear, and we may charge the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.
- We will always tell you what has happened and what it costs before charging anything.
- Please look after your own belongings. We cannot accept responsibility for personal property left in the château or its grounds.
8. The building and grounds
This is a historic château with uneven floors, steep and irregular stairs and no lift, open water and unlit areas outside. Please supervise children at all times and take care after dark. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Photography
We sometimes photograph the château, its events and its workshops. If you would prefer not to appear in anything we publish, tell us and we will respect that.
10. Events outside our control
If we cannot honour a booking because of something genuinely outside our control — fire, flood, severe weather, utility failure, illness affecting the household, or an order of the authorities — we will offer you alternative dates or a full refund. We are not otherwise liable for costs you incur, such as travel booked separately.
11. Your information
How we collect, use and keep your information, and who we share it with, is set out in our privacy notice at chateaugudanes.com/privacy. You may ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it.
12. Complaints, and the law that applies
Please tell us at the time if something is wrong — almost everything is fixable while you are still here. If it is not, write to us at reservations@chateaugudanes.com. These terms are governed by French law, and the French courts have jurisdiction. Under French law you are entitled to take a dispute to a consumer mediator, free of charge, once you have tried to resolve it with us in writing.
