Salles de Bains
The guest bathrooms at Château de Gudanes have been beautifully restored to honour the elegance and craftsmanship of the eighteenth century. Thoughtfully designed with timeless fittings, graceful finishes and carefully chosen details, each space reflects the quiet refinement of the château while providing every modern comfort. Floral wallpapers, luxurious linens and elegant appointments create an atmosphere of understated sophistication.
As a Class I Historic Monument, the château is protected by France's highest heritage classification. In preserving the authenticity of its original architecture, decorative plasterwork, stone walls and historic interiors, it has not been possible to introduce ensuite bathrooms within most the guest chambers. This commitment to conservation allows the château to remain true to its remarkable architectural legacy and offers guests the rare privilege of experiencing one of France's most significant historic residences much as it has existed for centuries.
Guests are invited to enjoy a collection of beautifully appointed shared bathrooms (suite rooms receive a private bathroom), each featuring a shower, washbasin and WC, while one bathroom also offers a magnificent freestanding bath for moments of quiet relaxation. These bathrooms are located in a central space on the ground floor. Two additional powder rooms, located on both the ground and first floors, provide further convenience throughout your stay.
Complementing these spaces is an elegant dressing room, thoughtfully restored as part of the château's ongoing renaissance. Complete with refined vanities and soft lighting, it offers a peaceful retreat for dressing, hair styling and preparing for the day or evening ahead - a graceful addition that reflects the château's enduring spirit of hospitality.

For a beautiful day exploring the Ariège countryside, we recommend beginning your morning in Mirepoix, one of the region’s most enchanting historic towns. Remarkably preserved, Mirepoix has retained much of its medieval character, with its magnificent timber-framed square, historic cathedral and delightful antique boutiques waiting to be discovered. If your visit falls on a Monday, we highly recommend experiencing its famous weekly morning market - the largest in the region - where local producers, artisans and farmers gather beneath the beautiful arcades.
For lunch, you may wish to dine close-by at Château de Sibra (advance reservations essential), or simply enjoy one of the charming cafés surrounding the historic square.
Afterward, we suggest a visit to Camon, often regarded as one of France’s most beautiful villages and affectionately known as the “Village of 100 Roses”. Wander its picturesque lanes, discover its ancient abbey and visit our friend Katie’s charming gallery and boutique. If you visit during May, when the roses are in bloom, Camon is truly at its most magical.
Continuing your journey, we recommend then visiting the hilltop village of Lagarde, where the romantic ruins of its ancient castle overlook the surrounding landscape. After exploring this peaceful historic site, we invite you to visit our dear friend Marie at Maison Bonjour, a charming village café just a short walk away, where you can enjoy a wonderful selection of tea, coffee and homemade treats.
Finally, we recommend finishing your journey back to the Château with a stop to visit to L’Église Notre-Dame de Vals, a remarkable ancient church built directly into an ancient rock face.
-
We recommend beginning your morning in the village of Saint-Jean-du-Falga at our favourite Salon de Thé, La Brûlerie & Compagnie. Just next door, we invite you to visit our preferred chocolatier, Leonidas.
Après votre café, there is a grand antique store just down the road awaiting your arrival!
Afterward, we suggest a visit to the historic town of Foix offering a wonderful glimpse into the heritage of the Ariège. The impressive Château de Foix is the former seat of the Counts of Foix and the historic capital of the region. Guests can explore the castle and its fascinating medieval museum.
While in Foix, we recommend a visit to our favourite patisserie, Maison Huguette, for a lavender latte and the pastry of the day. The town is also home to many charming antique shops and hosts a lively weekly market every Friday morning.
-
The charming spa village of Ax-les-Thermes offers a wonderful combination of mountain adventure, relaxation and local culture. Guests may take the cable car from the centre of the village to the summit of Bonascre, where spectacular panoramic views across the Pyrenees await. Skiing and tobogganing are offered during the winter. Mountain biking experiences can also be arranged during the warmer months.
For a more restorative experience, we recommend visiting the renowned thermal baths and spa. Celebrated since antiquity for its naturally warm, mineral-rich waters, Ax-les-Thermes offers luxury spa facilities and a beautiful selection of bathing experiences and treatments.
The village also hosts a delightful Saturday morning market, alongside charming cafés, patisseries and traditional crêperies.
-
A visit to the magnificent medieval city of Carcassonne makes for an unforgettable day trip. On the journey, we recommend a stop at our favourite antique destination in the village of Brams. We would be delighted to contact the owner in advance to ensure he is available to welcome you.
Within Carcassonne, we suggest taking time to wander the ancient ramparts and admire the sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. For lunch, we recommend La Barbacane, a Michelin-starred restaurant offering an exceptional dining experience with beautiful terrace views (advance reservations essential), or L’Ostal des Troubadours, a relaxed and atmospheric restaurant known for its live music, welcoming spirit and wood-fired cuisine.
For guests with a particular appreciation for wine, we further recommend a visit to Château de Pennautier, located just outside Carcassonne. This historic estate offers guided tours, cellar tastings and the opportunity to enjoy lunch at their resident restaurant.
-
Wine lovers may particularly enjoy a visit to our friends Château Maris, a remarkable vineyard renowned for its commitment to sustainability and biodynamic winemaking. As the first European vineyard to receive B Corporation certification, Château Maris has played an important role in the evolution of responsible wine production in France. Guests may enjoy exploring the estate, as well as the wider wine region of Limoux, discovering its philosophy and sampling its exceptional wines and sparklings.
-
Situated between France and Spain, the independent principality of Andorra is located just a short journey from Château de Gudanes and offers a unique mountain experience. While well known for its duty-free shopping, we believe its greatest treasures lie in its extraordinary alpine landscapes, especially during the winter for skiing.
During the warmer months, Andorra is particularly beautiful for hiking, mountain exploration and even stargazing beneath some of the clearest skies in the Pyrenees. For guests wishing to experience the mountains without a strenuous walk, we recommend travelling aboard Le Petit Train Jaune (The Little Yellow Train) - a historic railway journey through the Pyrenean landscape, with open-air carriages available during summer offering breathtaking panoramic views.
