Rekindle your creative spirit and connect with the timeless beauty of traditional craftsmanship, surrounded by the idyllic ambiance of Château de Gudanes
The Vision
Beyond the restoration of a château lies the revival of a way of life
The restoration of Château de Gudanes has always been about far more than the preservation of stone, timber and architecture. While the physical restoration of the château remains at its heart, our vision extends beyond the walls themselves - towards the revival of a forgotten way of life.
Through the restoration of historic interiors, traditional crafts, decorative arts, cuisine and the rituals of everyday living, we seek to honour the elegance, artistry and savoir-faire of centuries past. The château is not simply being restored as a monument to history, but gently reawakened as a living home where old-world traditions can once again be cherished, shared and celebrated.
The Autumn Atelier is an invitation to step into this vision - to slow down, reconnect with the beauty of handmade creations, and experience the timeless pleasures that have long been woven into the soul of château life.
Each day unfolds with a thoughtfully curated programme of embroidery, calligraphy, traditional French cooking and other time-honoured crafts, all guided by expert artisans and tutors. Whether you are discovering these skills for the very first time or are an accomplished maker seeking to deepen your practice, each atelier is designed to inspire and nurture creativity at every level. During the stay, guests will also experience a demonstration and workshop on the creation of a traditional plumier and a fine feather quill, celebrating the enduring beauty of handwritten correspondence and centuries-old craftsmanship.
A return to the elegance of slow creation, where every stitch, stroke and recipe tells a story
At the heart of each atelier are the remarkable artisans who generously share their knowledge, passion and time-honoured skills. United by a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, they invite guests to slow down, create with intention and discover the enduring beauty of making by hand.
The Experience
An Artisan Profile
Nicolas Jover
Brodeur d’Art
Under the expert supervision of Brodeur d’Art, Nicolas Jover, each guest (if they wish) shall embroider a piece (brooch, bracelet or ornament) inspired by and designed specifically from the interior detail found in the gold gilded 18th Century Salon de Musique at the château.
Nicolas comes from a family who have specialised in embroidery since the 1700s. Trained at the Royal Academy of Embroidery, Nicolas gained a professional level in Haute Couture Embroidery and Interior Decoration Embroidery. He has worked for the worlds greatest artist embroidery houses and even for the Venice Carnavalet Museum and Carnival of Venice festival.
The Rhythm of Château Life
This intimate Château Atelier welcomes a small group of guests, allowing each stay to unfold at a gentle pace with thoughtful attention, warmth and a true sense of belonging.
While this experience may include carefully curated activities and special moments, the greatest pleasure lies simply in being here - wandering through centuries of history, discovering the quiet beauty of the gardens, and embracing the peaceful rhythm of life within the château.

Les Chambres
As autumn settles across the French Pyrenees, the château becomes your home - a place to rest, restore and embrace the gentle rhythm of the season. Each bedroom offers a peaceful retreat, thoughtfully prepared with antique French beds, vintage monogrammed linens, heirloom furnishings and treasured objects collected throughout the château's restoration. Beyond your windows, sweeping views of the mountains, valleys and autumn landscapes provide a constant reminder of the beauty that surrounds you.
Guests are welcomed to their own antique French double bed, while couples enjoy a private bedroom with a king bed. Rooms are thoughtfully arranged for two guests, with accommodation for three available upon request. Solo travellers are carefully paired with a like-minded guest or, where possible, offered a private room to ensure a restful and comfortable stay.
As the evenings grow crisp, electric blankets and heated radiators ensure every bedroom remains warm and inviting - offering the perfect sanctuary after a day spent creating.

Les Salle de Bains
In keeping with the château's rich history, our bathrooms offer a thoughtful balance of heritage and comfort. Beautifully appointed with elegant fittings, floral wallpapers, soft towels and timeless details, they provide a welcoming space to refresh and unwind throughout your stay.
As a protected eighteenth-century monument, the château has been carefully restored in accordance with historic preservation guidelines. To honour and preserve its original architecture, ensuite bathrooms are not permitted, and all bathroom facilities are shared. Each is thoughtfully appointed and includes a shower, basin and toilet, while one features a beautiful freestanding bath - perfect for a long, relaxing soak after a day of creativity.
For your comfort, a dedicated dressing room is also available, complete with soft lighting, vanities, comfortable seating and mirrors for preparing at a leisurely pace. Whether dressing for an elegant candlelit dinner or simply taking a quiet moment for yourself, it offers a peaceful extension of your private retreat within the château.
Seasonal Dining
At Château de Gudanes, the table is where the day gently unfolds. As autumn colours the surrounding mountains and forests, each meal becomes an invitation to slow down, gather together and savour the simple pleasures of the season. From leisurely breakfasts accompanied by freshly baked viennoiserie, to leisurely luncheons and elegant candlelit dinners, every dining experience is thoughtfully woven into the rhythm of château life.
Inspired by the rich harvests of the French Pyrenees, our chefs create seasonal menus that celebrate the finest local produce, time-honoured French recipes and the abundance of autumn. Whether sharing generous family-style feasts, learning alongside our chefs in the historic cuisine, or enjoying beautifully presented regional dishes, each meal is prepared with warmth, generosity and an appreciation for the traditions of the French table.
We are delighted to accommodate a range of dietary requirements and allergies wherever possible, and warmly encourage you to share any preferences with us before your arrival so that every meal may be enjoyed with ease and confidence.
Throughout your stay, a carefully curated selection of wines, sparkling wines, aperitifs and liqueurs is served alongside meals, accompanied by refreshing soft drinks, sparkling water and the château's own handcrafted botanical syrups.
For quieter moments between creating, a welcoming tea and coffee salon remains available throughout the day. Whether you choose to settle beside a window with a book, gather with fellow guests in one of the salons, or simply pause to admire the changing colours beyond the château walls, we invite you to make yourself entirely at home.
