Dan & Carl’s Wedding
Dan and Carl’s wedding holds a particularly treasured place in the story of Château de Gudanes. Celebrated in 2018, it was the first wedding to take place within the château in more than a century - at a time when Gudanes was still very much emerging from its years as a ruin.
There was minimal electricity, concrete floors beneathfoot and the restoration unfolding all around. Yet within this beautiful imperfection came an occasion of remarkable warmth and elegance. Rather than disguising the château as it was, the celebration embraced it: simple, thoughtful and inspired by the traditions of France, allowing the history of the rooms, the surrounding landscape and the generosity of the local community to become part of the day.
For dinner, our dear friend from the village, Marie-Andrée, hand-picked white asparagus from a friend’s nearby farm - a small gesture that captured the spirit of the celebration perfectly. Local produce, time-honoured traditions and the kindness of those around us came together to create something quietly extraordinary.
Looking back upon Dan and Carl’s wedding today is also a remembrance of how far the château has come. Much has changed within these walls since 2018, yet the essence remains: celebrations at Gudanes need not be defined by grandeur alone, but by beauty in simplicity, a sense of place, and the memories created when people gather together with meaning.
