Imagine a moment, opening your mailbox and inside awaits a true treasure. A letter from Chateau de Gudanes, crackled with care, paper hand-made and the words old fashioned, tiny and typed. Enclosed is a letter, or rather what the French once upon a time called a missive. This missive is an invitation to step back in time on a voyage of discovery, as if in a trance stepping upon grey cold cobblestones along a once forgotten carriageway towards a centuries old castle… if only the walls could talk...
Four times each year, beautifully prepared correspondence leaves Château de Gudanes and makes its way across the world. In times long ago, missives would make their way across the lands and seas, carried by pigeons. At the château the pigeonnier still remains and it is this petit outbuilding that has inspired The Château Letter Club.
Printed at the château and assembled by hand, each missive offers a glimpse into the changing seasons of château life - from stories of the restoration and recipes from the kitchen, to forgotten traditions, craftsmanship and news of the gardens. Created to be read slowly and cherished, each letter is accompanied by thoughtfully chosen château inspired paper ephemera.
We invite you to read and re-read in real enjoyment, going slowly and carefully allowing time for the words to wander towards the senses - to see the setting, to hear the village church bells, to breathe in the scent of the mountain air that lingers in the scenery.

A Slower Way to Stay Connected
Once upon a time, the pigeonnier, which still stands today, was the heart of communication at the château. Long before the age of instant messages and hurried correspondence, the castle’s inhabitants relied upon trusted pigeon messengers to carry news, stories and letters across the French countryside, connecting one home with another. These letters were called missives.
Inspired by this beautiful tradition, we invite you to join us for a new way of correspondence: our Seasonal Château Missives. Four times each year, a letter will leave the château and make its way to your letterbox. Printed at the château and prepared by hand, each missive will offer a small and intimate glimpse into life within these centuries-old walls.
Written from the heart and inspired by the changing seasons, the letters will share the story of the château as it continues to unfold - the restoration as it progresses, discoveries made along the way, forgotten traditions, recipes from the château’s kitchen, the people who bring Gudanes to life, and the many quiet details that might otherwise remain unseen.
Stories from the Château, Season by Season
Each edition shall be different. Some may carry a recipe, others a sketch, a fragment of history, a forgotten French tradition or a story from the restoration. There may be an old château photograph, a handwritten note, a small craft or a piece of ephemera inspired by the season. Nothing will be quite like receiving a letter from the château.

Spring awakens the gardens and fills the château with the promise of new beginnings. Summer brings long afternoons, open windows and the happy bustle of château life. And autumn arrives with harvests, fireside evenings, old recipes and the particular beauty of the changing countryside. Our Seasonal Missives will follow this rhythm, allowing you to journey alongside us throughout the year.

The First Missive
Our inaugural Winter Missive will leave Château de Gudanes in early December 2026.
It will carry with it the quiet magic of winter at the château - a first letter from our home to yours, and the beginning of what we hope will become a rather special tradition.
For those who join us from the very beginning, this first edition will mark the start of a journey through the seasons of Gudanes, one letter at a time.

You will be asked to add your address during the original subscription checkout process.
Standard and international postage are included within the price of your missive subscription, with no additional postage charges. Each correspondence will arrive in an A5 envelope, carefully prepared at the château and ready to be opened and enjoyed.
Please kindly note, there is no tracking for your letter. Should your letter not have arrived by the middle of its respective season, please do let us know. We will be delighted to arrange for another to be sent to you.
